why therapy?
Sometimes there is a stigma around the need for therapy so I’d like to set the record straight. Therapy is for everyone. There is always some benefit to self exploration, even if you managed to get through childhood unscathed, though I’ve yet to meet someone who isn’t carrying something they’d like to put down. Many of the people I work with are simply wanting understand themselves better so they can heal and move forward in their lives in a way that feels aligned to them. Actually, seeking out a therapist when there’s nothing “wrong” is a really good idea in my opinion. Therapy is most successful when you feel connected to and trusting of your therapist. Trust isn’t built overnight and by connecting with a therapist before there is an urgent need you are setting yourself up to already have a safe space to turn to. And let’s face it - there will come a time when there is an urgent need, because life. For most of us, asking for help is a muscle we need to practice using and one that takes time to build. There are many reasons to engage in therapy, maybe it’s a desire to heal from past trauma, sometimes it’s to move through a challenging time or a period of transition, or could be to gain skills to be able to show up to life’s challenges in a way you feel proud of. As a therapy participant myself, I am very grateful to have a person in my corner to rely on and be in relationship with when times are tough. As a therapy provider, I am honored to meet you where you are at in your therapy journey. I hope this cleared some things up or maybe opened a door.
