The gift of horses

We are not meant to wear masks.

I’ve noticed a shift as we’ve left winter behind and transition to spring, hearts are opening up in the same way the flowers do and we are unable to hide some of what is happening underneath the surface any longer.

This kind of unfolding makes my own heart sing. This is the aliveness I live for.

Most days I watch the horses engaging with each other as part of my grounding practice in between sessions. They live so freely and honestly. No masks. I believe we can live that way too.

When I witness them communicate with one another it’s clear they take nothing personally. Most of the baggage they carry has been human inflicted. They interact with one another in such clear and direct ways, if they want to be close they will be, if they want space they will take it. This creates trust within the herd and security. A must for all of us.

Horses give us the gift of permission, permission to allow our masks down and still be accepted, still remain connected and loved. In fact, most of the time they demand this realness, in their own gentle way. They know the freedom of congruence, and request that of us as well. In turn we get to find our own trust, and security within, too.

May you have the courage to turn toward your own aliveness and what makes you human.
